Chesham

The town was administered by Chesham Local GD from 1884, which in 1894 was succeeded by the Urban District of Chesham under the LGA 1894. Dating from at least the 12th century, the oldest church in Chesham is St. Mary's. Dating to 1706 at least, Broadway BC had its celebrations in 2006 of its 300th anniversary in Chesham.

As it was pedestrianised in 1990, the benefits to the High Street in Chesham's High Street have been felt since. Chesham has become from central London the location that is furthest served, in terms of distance and travelling time, following the cessation of underground services to Aylesbury in 1961 and the closure of Ongar in 1994. In Buckinghamshire's Chiltern Hills, southeast of the Aylesbury county town by (18 km) 11 miles is Chesham (/ˈtʃɛʃəm/, locally /ˈtʃɛsəm/, or /ˈtʃɛzəm/).

During the 19th century, a church were built at Waterside in 1867, and further churches at Bellingdon and Ashley Green were built, which were at the time both within Chesham, to accommodate the increasing population. Chesham's puritan traditions and Lollard heritage ensured it would resist King Charles I's demand vehemently for Ship Money with the majority of communities in Buckinghamshire.

The old conservation area and Chesham town centre were placed on the register of English Heritage Conservation Areas at Risk which in June 2009 the District Council said was due to the responses to the questionnaire of the conservation body misinterpretation. In Broadway, Chesham war memorial stands in a landscaped garden. Connected to Amersham that is nearby by services, and further afield to Hemel Hempstead, Uxbridge, and High Wycombe, is Chesham.

Within the catchment areas of further gs', Dr Challoner's Grammar School for boys' and HS for girls in Little Chalfont falls Chesham. Founded in 1848, Chesham cricket club is one of the oldest clubs in Thames Valley Cricket League. Founded in 1980, Chesham Rugby union Club ('The Stags') play rugby at Chiltern Hills Academy.
